All Things Organic Conference and Trade Show Opens in Chicago

The conference portion of the All Things Organic conference and trade show begins today at Chicago's McCormick Place convention center. For the most part, it's an event that's tailored to food distributors, manufacturers and retailers, but there are some things that might appeal to the casual visitor. For starters, the trade show will feature thousands of new products to be sampled and tasted on the trade show floor -- that alone is probably worth the price of admission ($60). Here's a complete list of the exhibitors.

The other reason to go is to hear USDA Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Kathleen Merrigan give the keynote address tomorrow morning. Sustainable food advocates are thrilled with President Obama's selection of Merrigan, who Grist describes as "a real reformer," and it'd be a good opportunity to hear her discuss sustainable food issues.

To get a better idea of the scene at the trade show, check out this video. The techno music makes is seem otherworldly.
