Film: The Tragedy of the Immortal Plastic Bag

Got 18 minutes to kill? This short film, directed by Ramin Bahrani and narrated by Werner Herzog (!), is probably the best thing I've seen all week.

By now, we all know the ugly truth about plastic bags: They're made from petroleum, they'll outlive most other things in this world, and millions of them end up downstream, in a continent-size gyre in the North Pacific. But dramatizing those facts without falling into the typical formula used in most issue-based documentaries is no easy task.

It may be a good idea to make visits to landfills mandatory for kids (of all ages)....
