New Film Trailer: Living Downstream
Monday, March 22, 2010 at 9:28AM I've been looking forward to the documentary Living Downstream since I first heard about it over the summer. The film is about Dr. Sandra Steingraber, author of the book Living Downstream: An Ecologist’s Personal Investigation of Cancer and the Environment, which was published in 1997.
In her 20s, Steingraber was diagnosed with bladder cancer, and after it went into remission she went on to receive advanced degrees in English and biology. After working as a biology researcher, she started writing about the links between industrial and agricultural pollution and cancer and doing public speaking engagements. Steingraber frames cancer as a human rights issue, and she has the ability to make heavy science accessible to non-scientists.
No word yet on what type of distribution the film will get. Whatever it is, I hope it comes to Chicago soon.
