New Video: Organic Rooftop Farming in Chicago

Last week we got a chance to visit Uncommon Ground, a restaurant in Chicago's Edgewater neighborhood that focuses on seasonal, regional and organic food and boasts the nation's first certified organic rooftop farm!

Uncommon Ground is truly more than a restaurant, they're working to build community around sustainable practices and help inspire and educate the neighborhood about green things they can do in their own homes. When we arrived, a lively farmers market was taking place in the ground floor courtyard complete with music by visiting band Rusted Root, local food vendors and my favorite: Glazed donuts.

As we ventured onto the roof, we learned about the benefits of super local produce, the challenges of farming so far off the ground and got to sample some honey from the restaurant's rooftop bee colony!

If you're having trouble with the video player above, try viewing it on YouTube. And to view more photos from Uncommon Ground, head over to our Flickr page.
