Organic Pick of the Week: John Masters Organics

I've been choosing organic foods for awhile now but I've only recently recognized the importance of putting only the purest ingredients on my skin. You might be wondering why this matters since we don't eat things like lotion and shampoo. The truth is that your skin actually absorbs much of what you put on it, including harmful chemicals and preservatives (see EPA study). And since the beauty care industry is not regulated like food, certain ingredients do make their way onto our shelves and if we're not careful, into our bodies.

Enter John Masters Organics, which are made with certified organic ingredients and no parabens, DEAs, MEAs, TEAs, sodium laurel sulfate, artificial color fragrance or petro-chemicals. I recently sampled their blood orange & vanilla body care line and felt positively luxurious applying them to my skin.

The body wash has a pleasant scent and lathers into a nice creamy foam (created with mild corn and coconut-based cleansers). It uses ingredients like pink grapefruit oil to clean and balance oily skin without drying it out. It's definitely a nice way to get your skin ready for the body milk, which I have to admit was the highlight of my day.

John Masters Organics blood orange & vanilla body milk is one of the best lotions I've ever tried (and at 18 bucks a pop, it better be good). It has a delicious scent that balances refreshing citrus with warm vanilla and it absorbs quickly so it made me feel positively silky without any stickiness or grease. With ingredients like blood orange oil to help with collagen production and milk thistle to promote skin detoxification, it felt like I was applying superfoods to my skin! I got a sunburn on my legs the day before I used it and found that the safflower oil and sea algae hydrated my skin while the aloe vera helped me heal.

John Masters Organics has over 30 sumptuous products including haircare and skincare lines. So if you're looking to treat yourself or find a nice present for a friend, these products look nice, feel good and are friendly to our planet as well!
