Rocking Out at Farm Aid 2009!
Monday, October 5, 2009 at 12:15PM
This past weekend, we had the pleasure of attending Farm Aid 2009 in St. Louis, Missouri. The concert is a massive fundraiser that aims to help struggling family farmers stay on their land. Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp organized the first Farm Aid concert in 1985 to raise awareness about the loss of family farms and Dave Matthews joined the Farm Aid Board of Directors in 2001.
Since it was formed, Farm Aid has raised nearly $35 million to promote a strong and resilient family farm system of agriculture. They also bring much needed attention to issues like the dairy crisis, they tell the stories of individual farmer heroes and offer resources to farmers in need.
My favorite part of the event was definitely the press conference with the musicians speaking about the importance of family farmers, keeping young people on the land and getting organic food into our homes and schools.
Feel like you missed out? You can watch the concert via webcast here.
