Scenes from the Corks & Crayons Benefit Dinner
Monday, August 31, 2009 at 10:29AM This weekend, the OrganicNation.tv crew had the pleasure of attending a fundraiser for the nonprofit Purple Asparagus at Uncommon Ground restaurant in Chicago. The event, titled "Corks & Crayons", was a blast for kids and adults alike with a mini-farmer's market, silent auction, samples of Uncommon Ground's delicious menu and plenty of live music.
Founded in 2005, Purple Asparagus is a non-profit dedicated to bringing families back to the table by promoting and enjoying all the things associated with good eating. Upcoming events include visits to the Chicago Downtown Farmstand on the first Thursday of each month from September through December and a Halloween Celebration at the Evanston Farmers Market on October 31st.

Purple Asparagus also works in conjunction with the Greater Chicago Food Depository's Kids Cafe's to help teach older kids how to make a family dinner. Through this program the kids get to have input on the menu, prepare, cook and serve dinner to their family. Sounds like a great cause to me!
You can become a member of Purple Asparagus here or donate to the cause here.
