• Marion Nestle chimes in on the ethics of eating meat and argues, sensibly, to "push for more humanely and sustainably raised farm animal production, don't eat meat if you choose not to, and if you do eat meat, just don’t eat too much of it."

• The Kansas City Star has an excellent report on medical groups that are in bed with junk-food companies. 

• Samuel Fromartz of Chews Wise does a good job explaining some of the disadvantages that smaller eastern farmers have compared to the big organic growers in California, which is probably why eating local is often valued over organic certification in states like Maine and Vermont.

• Civil Eats takes a look at the year that's passed in food policy since Obama won the election (my, how time does fly) and sees "only a few successes, while other policies that could lead to food insecurity are brewing in back rooms."
